Symphony Pro Music
shines with cellist Law
Leominster - Saturday night's concert by the Symphony Pro Music, under
the direction of Mark Churchill, was highlighted by the performance of
16-year old cellist Wendy Law. A student at New England Conservatory,
she performed the Haydn Cello Concerto in D Major for an enthusiastic
audience of nearly 200 at Leominster City Hall.
Despite her youth, Law brought a mater approach to this difficult work.
Particularly noteworthy were her gorgeous tone and always sensible way
with phrases. The playing of the many lyrical passages in the concerto
was always in impeccable taste.
DIFFICULT PASSAGES
Law handled the concerto's more virtuoso sections with considerable
facility. The difficult octave passages in the final movement were
right in tune and she moved around the cello deftly, without missing
notes or making a lot of unseemly slides.
Her vibrato was intense yet did not distract the listener nor distort
the pitch of the notes. This was a spirited performance that was very
much appreciated by the audience.
